General education only

CyberThreats.au explains how things work and describes what official sources say. It doesn’t give advice. The content on CyberThreats.au is general educational information. It doesn’t take into account your objectives, circumstances or technical environment. It isn’t legal, financial, professional or technical advice, a security audit, a penetration test, a compliance assessment or an incident investigation, and it isn’t a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who understands your situation.

No guarantee of security

No product, setting, checklist or process makes a person, device or organisation completely secure. The protections described in our guides may reduce some risks; they won’t remove them.

If you need urgent help

In an emergency, call 000. If you’ve lost money to a scam, Scamwatch advises contacting your bank or card provider straight away. For official reporting and support services, see where to report in Australia.

Accuracy

We work to keep content accurate and current, and each guide shows when it was last reviewed. But threats, products, licensing and official guidance change quickly. We don’t guarantee that any content is complete, current or suitable for your situation. Check important decisions against the official sources we link to.

Technical changes

Some guides describe security settings, for example in Microsoft 365. Changing these settings can affect access to systems and data. The vendor’s own documentation is the authoritative source for any change, and you’re responsible for changes you make to systems you manage.

Interactive tools

Our checklists and quizzes are self-assessments based on your answers. They don’t scan devices, test systems or detect whether you’ve been hacked.

We link to other websites, including government and vendor sites. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or availability.

No affiliation

CyberThreats.au is independent. It isn’t affiliated with, or endorsed by, any government agency or any vendor whose products are mentioned. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify products.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, CyberThreats.au isn’t liable for loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, information on this site. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can’t lawfully be excluded.
